The Thin Blue Line

The thin blue line represents a band of men and women in law enforcement that stand between peace and chaos in our nation. It symbolizes bravery, brotherhood, family and sacrifice.

Without these brave men and women who make up this thin blue line, our world would be an even darker and scarier place than it already is.

Take a minute to imagine it. All of the men and women who serve and protect our counties and cities across our nation wake up one day and decide they are just tired and it's not worth it anymore. They're throwing in the towel.

Who is going to protect the single Mom whose abusive ex-husband is breaking into her home to try and harm her?

Who is going to stop the drunk driver who is headed home after a night at the bar, crossing the center line and about to plow into another vehicle carrying a family headed home from a travel ball tournament?

Who is going to catch the person who keeps breaking into your homes and cars, stealing things that don't belong to them?

Who is going to answer the call from the young woman who was just attacked in a parking lot while loading her groceries into her car?

Who is going to calm the frantic mother and look for her missing child that was there one minute and gone the next?

Who is going to respond to the person who is at the brink of making a permanent solution to their temporary problems, because they can't see living even one more day in the pressures of this world.

WHO IS GOING TO TAKE THE CALL???

You see, this blue line is vital to our society. Without it, there is no law and order. There is no protection for the vulnerable. These examples above, don't even hold a candle to all of the ways our law enforcement officers protect and serve our communities.

But yet, we live in a world that wants nothing more than to extinguish that thin blue line. Our officers are met with disrespect, zero gratitude, non compliance, persecution and death. They are getting killed left and right in the line of duty and others are being thrown into prison for defending themselves against the threats they are faced with.

So, this raises the question, why do they do it? Why do most of them choose this job knowing the risks? Lord knows, they don’t do it for the money or the recognition.

They do it because they bleed blue. They have a passion for the job in front of them. They do it for the single mom, the car full of ball players, the defenseless woman in a parking lot, the missing child, the frantic mother, the person who thinks they have nothing left to live for. They do it for them. They do it for you and for me.

Another blue life was lost today. He won't be able to answer the call again and that is a tragedy.

I just want to take a second to thank every single man and woman in blue today. Thank you for your service. Thank you for holding that thin blue line and keeping it strong. Hang in there and know you are being prayed for.

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.

  1. I live in Phoenix; Tuesday night we lost a Yavapai deputy sheriff, killed in the line of duty, 51 years old. I truly appreciate police officers and it is a shame they are not treating with more respect. Someone I work with, her husband is a policeman but she rarely tells anyone what he does for a living since there is such low regard for him. That is a shame.
